In electrical engineering, there is a concept called "the transfer function". A transfer function is a mathematical expression that can be used to calculate the output of an "unknown system" based what you plan to input into the system.
In other words, based on what you put into a system and what comes out of a system, you can calculate the "transfer function" for the system without knowing what the system actually is, without knowing what the motives of the system are and without actually knowing how the system actually functions. With the transfer function for a system, if you have an input, you can calculate what will come out of the system.
For a lot of us, the transfer function for the system is essentially "contra". What I mean by contra is that for some of us, no matter what we put into the system, the output of the system will always be "whatever the system thinks will do us the most harm". This is actually sorta kinda great when you think about it.
Because we know that the transfer function for the system is "contra" (i.e. we know that no matter what we put into the system, the system will always output whatever it thinks will do us the most harm), all we have to do is not let the system know what we really want out of life, all we have to do is feed shit that we don't care about into the system.
