What surprised me about Rules of Attraction was that I could actually stand to look at James Van Der Beek. I guess it is that idiot dialogue on Dawson's Creek that just make everybody and everything ugly.
Any who, I liked the movie. The movie is very stylish and interesting in the beginning but it falls completely apart at the end. There is an entire movie within the movie of a minor character's trip to Europe, the only interesting thing about this insert is a bit of full frontal.
Ian Somerhalder is beautiful even though he is not photographed very well in the movie and his character is rather silly. I mean Ian looks like anybody, male or female, would kill to sleep with him, yet in the movie he can't get a date.
And, I have to admit that James Van Der Beek is very good in the movie.

There is a scene in the movie of Ian and some other guy (who wears dark shades in all of his scenes) in which they are jumping around on the bed of a hotel in their underwear to George Micheal's "Faith".
I suppose there may be someone somewhere who will find this exciting, but it just looked silly to me. I mean I can get and entire PORN Video featuring Jason Cruise (who looks a lot like Ian) for about $3.00 less than it cost me to see Rules.
Anywho, I ran across some article on the web in which the director brags that the whole scene was improv and unplanned and unchoreographed. The shit looks unplanned and improv, it just looks stupid.
Ian is beautiful, but there are a lot of beautiful guys aren't there, and showing a beautiful guy doing stupid shit, just makes the beautiful guy look stupid.
