Poverty on a Different Plateau

Honation (tm) NYC Temp Agencies New York City: Christopher Paige's Journal: What You Need To Know To Make Tons of Money Temping And To Destroy The Lives of Dumb Fucks Who Get In Your Way: Poverty on a Different Plateau
One of my favorite lines from a movie is from the movie "Six Degrees of Separation". Someone asks Michael Hall's character if a family is rich and he says no that they are not rich that they are just "poor on a different plateau".

Poverty on a Different Plateau is the best way I know of to describe the "rich" in Manhattan, they are just "poor at a different level of poverty". With all of the "accessories" that one needs in order to present one's self as "rich" is Manhattan, almost everyone ends up having no real money.

While I have gotten the impression that some Investment Bankers really are rich (because they make a lot of money and don't really do shit), the lawyers in NYC all seem like poor hustlers. When you see what it is that lawyers do in NYC and how their business actually works, all the lawyers in NYC just seem poor, like they are living in "poverty on a different plateau".
