I personally never saw the point in refusing to do work for someone simply because I was designated as “Dedicated” to someone else. Generally, if the people you are dedicated to don’t have anything for you to do, they don’t care if you do something for someone else during your down time.
The Actor Temp idiots seem to really “get into” the power trip of refusing work and telling people that they were “DEDICATED”. Actor Temps seem to think that only the higher class temps manage to achieve DEDICATION.
At this one bank where I worked a lot as a temp, I became known as “the guy who would do work for you”. Although I was usually dedicated to a specific person, I would routinely get work from other people asking me to help them out; since I was being paid to work, I saw no point in refusing work. Occasionally, the person I was DEDICATED to would see someone asking me to do work for them and yell “Don’t Even Try It”. I guess getting a “DEDICATED TEMP” is like a status thang.
Just keep in mind, that the person you refuse to do work for will one day be requesting a temp and will remember your attitude.
