I was on a long term assignment once in which I was the person standing in for the supervisor on weekends in a word processing center (I guess I was a temp supervising thang).
One thing that I became very conscious of as a supervisor was whether a temp was smiling when I first greeted him or her (mostly because CERTAIN temps always had smiles on their faces and CERTAIN other temps NEVER had smiles on their faces).
While making a point to smile and look eager when you first greet the person you are going to be working for on a temp assignment may seem silly, it does make a very big impression.
I have to admit that, prior to the noted observation, it never really occurred to me (as a temp) to make a conscious effort to smile and look eager when I went on temp assignments. I suppose I just assumed that my manner and demeanor was like every other temp's manner and demeanor. But, as noted, it was very very apparent to me that certain folks never smiled.
When I greeted an unsmiling temp, I was left with the impression that the person was defensive and would not be very receptive to instructions.
On the hand, when I greeted a smiling cheerful person, I got the impression that that person was confident and that even if he/she didn’t have knowledge of something, that that person would be very receptive to instructions.
I suppose what I'm saying here is that when you fucking go an a fucking temp assignment, it fucking helps to fucking give the fucking impression that you actually like fucking like the fuckers you are going to be fucking working with (as least that’s how it fucking appeared to me anyway).
